Former President Donald Trump is once again urging Senate Republicans to terminate the filibuster, releasing a new video on Truth Social on Monday that features audio from former Attorney General Eric Holder. In the clip, Holder suggests that if Democrats secure a “trifecta” in the 2028 elections, they should consider expanding the U.S. Supreme Court.
The audio came from a conversation between Holder and Ben Meiselas, co-founder of MeidasTouch, which originally posted the footage last month.
Trump Targets Holder Over Court Expansion Remarks
In his Truth Social post, Trump referred to Holder—who served under President Barack Obama—as an “Obama sycophant.” Trump further claimed that Holder wants Democrats to pack the Supreme Court with 21 “radical left” judges, expanding beyond the 15 justices Trump said Democrats had previously sought.
According to Trump, eliminating the filibuster is essential for Republicans to secure victories in both the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential race.
Trump wrote,
“They will destroy our Constitution, and there’s not a thing Republicans can do about it unless we terminate the filibuster, which will lead to an easy win in the Midterms and an even easier win in 2028.”
He added that Americans are tired of gridlock and want leaders who can “get things done,” urging Republicans to act now.
Recent Attacks on Obama Continue
This latest criticism marks Trump’s second swipe at former President Obama in recent weeks. The tension is further highlighted by controversy surrounding John A. Sarcone III, Trump’s newly appointed interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York.
Sarcone, an attorney from Westchester County and longtime supporter of Trump, was appointed without Senate confirmation. However, past social media posts from Sarcone have resurfaced, revealing aggressive attacks on Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton.
In 2022, Sarcone accused Biden of being a “traitor” guilty of “treason” and said Obama should be “the first illegal alien deported.” He also called for Clinton to be jailed.
Sarcone Defends Qualifications Despite No Prosecutorial Experience
During his swearing-in ceremony on Monday in Albany, Sarcone defended his lack of prosecutorial background, arguing that the most important qualities in a prosecutor are strong judgment, experience, and common sense.
He outlined his priorities, including:
Strengthening border security with Canada
Addressing “lawlessness” and federal law violations
Combatting public corruption, scams, and consumer fraud
Sarcone also signaled interest in investigating Upstate New York colleges and universities, saying federal prosecutors will ensure students’ rights are protected—especially regarding harassment tied to religious beliefs.
“Our reach will not stop at prosecuting those who violate our laws,” he said, “but will extend to those who knowingly support violations in any way.”
