Chicago, IL — Shocking new reports suggest that Chicago police officers were told not to assist federal agents surrounded by a violent crowd near an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on the city’s South Side.
Federal Agents Reportedly Attacked and Boxed In
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the incident occurred Saturday when a group of federal agents conducting a routine patrol “were attacked and rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars.”
The agents were approximately 15 miles from ongoing anti-ICE demonstrations outside the ICE processing center in Broadview when the assault began.
Federal officials said that after agents tried to exit their vehicle, a woman armed with a semi-automatic weapon attempted to ram them. She was shot by officers and later taken into custody.
Dispatch Audio Reveals Stand-Down Order
Audio recordings and internal messages reviewed by reporters suggest that Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers who initially moved to assist were later told to “stand down.”
In recordings shared by ExxAlerts on the X platform, a dispatcher can be heard relaying information about a hit-and-run suspect involved in the incident. Moments later, a male voice — reportedly a police supervisor — instructs officers to “stay put” a few blocks away.
A short time later, the same voice is heard saying, “Per the chief of patrol: Clear everybody out, we’re not responding over there.”
The dispatcher then repeats the directive: “Per the chief of patrol, all units clear out from there, we’re not sending anybody out to that location.”
Despite those instructions, one officer can be heard saying over the radio, “We’re going to clear out as soon as we can… we’re blocked in over here, so we’ll do the best we can to get out.”
Internal Memo Confirms Non-Response Directive
An internal CPD memo obtained by Fox News appeared to confirm that officers were ordered not to intervene. The message reportedly stated:
“PLEASE CHIEF OF PATROL NO UNITS WILL RESPOND TO THIS… CALLER IS 1 OF APPROX 30 ARMED PATROL AGENTS (ICE) WHO ARE BEING SURROUNDED BY A LARGE CROWD OF PEOPLE REQUESTING CPD.”
CPD Denies Stand-Down Claims
The Chicago Police Department has disputed reports that its officers were told to ignore the situation.
In a statement to Fox News, a CPD spokesperson said officers were, in fact, present at the scene to provide assistance.
“To clarify misinformation currently circulating, CPD officers did in fact respond to the shooting scene involving federal authorities on Saturday to maintain public safety and traffic control,” the department said.
CPD further emphasized that it always responds to anyone facing an immediate threat or attack, while supervisors assess incidents involving federal immigration enforcement “in accordance with City law.”
Homeland Security Vows Response
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem condemned the attack on X, writing:
“Today in Chicago, members of our brave law enforcement were attacked — rammed and boxed in by ten vehicles, including an attacker with a semi-automatic weapon.”
Noem pledged that additional federal resources would be deployed to Chicago following the violent confrontation.
