WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that San Francisco will be the next focus of a major federal crimefighting operation, as his administration ramps up efforts to combat violent crime and drug trafficking across the country.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump praised federal law enforcement, particularly the FBI, for what he called a “historic surge” in violent crime arrests since he returned to office. He said that under his leadership, the FBI has made over 23,000 violent crime arrests — more than double the number reported in the final year of the Biden administration.
“Our goal is simple: to make every city in America safe,” Trump said. “San Francisco is next. It’s a great city that’s been neglected and mismanaged. But we’re going to fix it.”
According to Trump, since he took office:
- Over 170 organized criminal enterprises have been “destroyed or severely disrupted.”
- More than 1,600 violent gangs have been targeted.
- Law enforcement has seized over 6,000 illegal firearms.
The president also pledged to restore safety to cities plagued by lawlessness:
“Every American deserves to live in a community where they’re not afraid of being mugged, murdered, robbed, raped, assaulted, or shot,” he said.
FBI Director: Record-Breaking Arrests, Massive Fentanyl Seizures
FBI Director Kash Patel shared updated statistics from “Operation Summer Heat,” the administration’s flagship anti-crime initiative. Over a three-month period, Patel said the operation led to:
- 8,700 violent offender arrests
- 2,200 illegal firearms seized
- 421 kilograms of fentanyl confiscated — enough to kill approximately 55 million Americans
“In just seven months, we’ve arrested 28,600 violent felons—more than any full year under the Biden administration,” Patel noted.
He added that the FBI has now seized 1,900 kilograms of fentanyl in total—enough to deliver lethal doses to 127 million Americans.
Patel also highlighted the FBI’s success in protecting vulnerable populations:
- 5,400 missing children recovered since January — a 30% increase year-over-year
- Violent crimes against children arrests up 10%
- Gang-related arrests up 210% in the past seven months
“Mr. President, you said we need to go after the worst of the worst. This is just the beginning,” Patel said.
Deputy Director Bongino: Field Offices Deliver Local Results
Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino also reported major developments from across the country as part of Operation Summer Heat. In a post on X, he detailed:
- In New York, agents arrested a suspect involved in the armed robbery of a gas station run by an elderly employee.
- In Seattle, a takedown of a large-scale street gang resulted in the seizure of 23 firearms and nearly 10,000 grams of drugs. The group allegedly used female couriers to move pills from Arizona to major airports in Seattle and Baltimore.
- In Florida, the FBI Tampa office, working with the DEA, USPS, and local law enforcement, dismantled a gang known as the “Hood Boys.” Twelve members were charged with defrauding the Paycheck Protection Program by submitting false loan applications.
“We continue to deliver results as we strive to protect the communities we serve,” Bongino wrote. “By uniting with our partners and the public, we remain prepared and resilient.”
